Soft Tissue Treatment
Salt Lake Sports Recovery’s treatment speeds the recovery of soft tissue injuries through evidence-based active and manual therapy. Salt Lake Sports Recovery’s approach resolves 90-95% of all injuries that present with an average treatment duration of 3 to 5 visits.
What is fascia? Fascia is a specialized system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider's web. Fascia is very densely woven, covering and interpenetrating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein, as well as, all of our internal organs including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord. The fascial system is one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption. Fascia is also explained as a connective tissue that binds some structures together while permitting others to slide smoothly over each other.
Trauma, injury, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures can trigger a shortening or twisting of the connective tissue (fascia). Fascia has very limited internal healing properties, therefore, when it is injured or distorted, it will often remain in this state until it is manually corrected. Simply put, the muscle can heal by itself but the fascial injury would remain.
Additionally, connective tissue injuries do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.) which means a high percentage of people suffering with pain and/or lack of motion may be having fascial problems, but are not diagnosed.
In the case of repetitive or chronic strain injuries that have muscle-based symptoms, the fascia surrounding and interwoven through the muscle becomes tight and restrictive. The tightening of the fascia inhibits the muscles ability to contract and relax as needed, which prevents the muscle from performing the function it was designed to perform.
Our Treatment model provides the following advantages for patients:
Ample one on one time with the doctor who provides a comprehensive evaluation and treatment during the initial visit where a majority of recovery is often achieved;
Thorough assessments following evidence-based clinical guidelines for diagnosis and treatment, which often times prevents the need for expensive imaging and other tests;
Patients achieve significant improvements in pain level, range of motion, and function after the first or second visit (even for severe muscle pulls, sprains, or strains);
A total of 3 to 5 visits (most patients average a total of 3 visits) may be all that is necessary to achieve recovery for many injuries or problems; and
Additionally, not only does Salt Lake Sports Recovery resolve current injuries, they also address the primary cause of the injury or dysfunction and guide patients so that they can reduce pain/dysfunction in the future.
